a SLURPEE-LESS weekend: highs and lows

A peek at today's activity. She loved it.

I hope you had a wonderful almost summer weekend. Praise the Lord, it was actually sunny. Hubby and I brutally went through all of our shedly possessions and made a mountain of things to sell at a garage sale or give away. It is so freeing to give up things that I "might use some day"--- my excuse for keeping things years beyond I need to. The shed was full of those sorts of things. But now it is organized and almost every box has been gone through and purged. The climax of the shed organizing was finding a rodent nest full of half eaten walnuts. I freaked out and texted hubby. Fast forward 15 minutes later. I went to pull a bag off of a shelf and noticed a huge hairy thing dragging behind it! AH! I danced around a bit, flinging my arms around as I screamed. Ugh. It still gives me the heebie jeebie's to think about it. Hubby eventually came home and cleaned up for me. We decided the deceased animal was a baby possum. Awww, sad. And ICK.

The downside to the weekend besides the dead mega-rodent? Blue Valentine. That movie was super hyped and I knew it was about a breakup but wow. There were not enough happy parts to make up for all the sadness. When it ended hubby and I were down in the dumps. I am not a fan of bummer movies.

The upside to the weekend besides our happy shed was that on Sunday we had our first family outing to the park. The babe loved it. She climbed some play structure steps, slid down the slide with our help, played with bark and said "hi" to dogs. That's pretty much the greatest day ever for an almost 14 month old. And maybe for me too- if you throw in a slurpee- which I didn't get. Next time, hubby. Next time.

So please, tell me, when was the last time you had a slurpee? Because we all the know that's what you are thinking about right now.

a tiny WEEKEND TO DO LIST

My to do list for this weekend is as follows:

1.) Finish cleaning out and organizing the shed!

2.) Convince hubby to prep one of our many pieces of furniture that need to be painted.

...aaaaand that is all. I can think of a million other things I'd like to accomplish, but realistically, I can probably only finish one thing besides keeping the little one happy and occupied.

P.S. I dream of having tiny his and hers sheds like Artemis and Nao. How inspiring.

enjoy the SIMPLE PLEASURES

Life is full of simple pleasures- the little things that make us smile and remind us that life is good. Here are some of my favorites from this week:

- going fast over a bump in the road that makes my stomach jump --- clean room + clean sheets + clean me --- watching my cat dip his paw into water and then lick the water off... and repeat --- freshly painted toenails --- hanging new art --- being outside in the beautiful soft light of dusk --- finding a perfect new-to-me Pandora station (Andrew Bird) --- rediscovering my love of tamale sauce-soaked burritos --- an uninterrupted night of sleep-

My weekend plans are fourfold:

1.) Spend time with my best friend visiting from SoCal.

2.) Give hubby a big 'ol hug and kiss when he returns from youth camp.

3.) Hug my sister when she arrives on Sunday and then kidnap her so she can't leave me again.

4.) Make Babycakes NYC cupcakes.

Whew! Well, that was a full and kooky weekend.

Friday:

- Acupuncture.

- Grandma fell at my parents' house and broke her ankle.

- Allergy elimination appointment.

- Shopping with friends.

Saturday:

- Grandma had surgery to put pins in her ankle. (Ouch!)

- Baby shower. (This is where the sunburn enters my weekend.)

- Shopping with mom-in-law and sister-in-law.

- Veggie burrito with hubs and in-laws.

Sunday:

- THE SAN FRAN RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR! -- Overview to come.

I hope you all had an amazing weekend! I sure did, but my poor grandma did not. : (

I realize that it is Saturday night and the weekend is already half over, but I am still going to say.... Happy Weekend! 

So far I have:

- gone to an acupuncture appointment

- avoided flowers, plants, and all living pollen-producing entities

- turned my air purifier on high

- hid out in my room with the air purifier

- worked on jewelry for my soon-to-open Etsy shop... more on that later

- watched Doubt with hubby

- made a banana, strawberry, hemp protein smoothie and wished the hemp protein didn't turn it a very unappetizing brown color

I plan to continue the weekend with:

- a Scrabble game with hubby

- a self-given pedicure

- lots and lots of allergy medicine and fluids

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday (or non-holiday) weekend! On the third, Hubby and I joined family friends at their beautiful home in the wine country to enjoy food, drinks, and dessert and watch the local fireworks from their backyard. They are talented caterers so the food is always delicious, and their home is also surrounded by luscious vineyards so it is always lovely to look at. Then Saturday and Sunday I spent my days inside, being rather sluggish. Hubby made Johnnycakes for breakfast both days from the Babycakes NYC Cookbook. They were amazing and I drowned them in agave nectar. Hubby spoils me. (xo)

In other news, I am considering leaving California so I can have a pet hedgehog. Why must California keep me from having all the best pets?

sunny SATURDAY

Well the weekend is looking bright and sunshiny. Mine started off on the right foot when hubby and I went on a date last night to East West Cafe for some amazing Mediterranean food and then followed it up with a drive around Sonoma County backroads (where he took this beautiful photo) and ended the evening with some hot drinks at A'Roma Roasters. I had a cup of cinnamon orange honeybush tea and it was pretty much like a party in my mouth.

What else is on the agenda? Some crafting, some hubby working on our crooked lil' house, and some who-knows-what. I like when my weekend has a little who-knows-what.

My plans are as follows:

a.) going to see UP with hubby this afternoon-- very excited about this... bringing a hanky

b.) watching my sister's college singing ensemble tonight

c.) saying goodbye to my little sister as she travels back to her SoCal home-- sadness to follow

d.) driving to SoCal tomorrow for my college roommate's wedding... gotta love I-5

e.) driving back to NorCal early Sunday morning

f.) sleep-- hopefully there will also be sleep in between some of the aforementioned activities

What are your plans?

a FRESH saturday

- Today my mother bought fresh strawberries on the corner of our street. They are the most delicious strawberries around. I have been gorging myself all day because they always taste the best the first day.

- Hubby brought me home a fresh bouquet of peonies. My absolute favorite! They are now sitting on my bedside stand to cheer me up when resting in bed. Thanks, hubby! <3

It's another rainy weekend in Sonoma County, but we had a couple of beautiful, sunny days this week. They allowed me to hike around our property and capture some of the sunbathing flowers on film.
